Spotlighting lower levels of competitive curling
Everyone knows Shuster, Peterson, Dropkin, and Strouse. But do they know Schroeder, Myers, Segovia, and Mellin?
This is Stones and Stripes. Over the course of the curling season, I will look to highlight past and upcoming lower-level adult competitive events in the USA. A huge focus gets placed (and rightfully so) on the high-performance athletes who compete on the world stage, but curlers across the country are putting in time, money, and energy to competing to their best with almost no recognition.
Over the past few years, I’ve competed at the 5-and-Under level and have also competed at regional club and arena playdowns. The curlers I’ve met along the way have helped me grow a deeper love of this sport, and I wanted to find an outlet to showcase their achievements, their victories, and their efforts.
In 2024-2025, I am going to aim at providing previews and recaps of arena nationals, club nationals, and 5-and-Under nationals (as well as qualifying events). Subscribe to stay up to date, see some highlights, and acquaint yourself with some names that deserve to be recognized.
